In the city of Eagan, chain link fences must be placed totally within the boundaries of your property. A common exception, though, is for joint fences between yards – in which case, you must have permission from your neighbor and their cooperation. City of Eagan regulations also state that a chain link fence can not block access to easements or public utilities, when applicable.

There is no specific code, rule, or regulation requiring one to notify their neighbor before installing a chain link fence in the city of Eagan. However, we recommend simply doing so unless there’s some outstanding reason preventing you from it. Of course, boundary fences require the consent of both property owners.
