Property owners are responsible for knowing their property’s boundaries. Unless an agreement is made with your neighbors, our vinyl fence installers can only build within your property boundaries. The Hopkins zoning administrator may require permit applications to contain a property survey produced by a registered land surveyor.

There is no legal requirement mandating that you inform your neighbors of new fence construction. However, it is still the neighborly thing to do. Both our vinyl fence installers and your neighbors would appreciate a heads up before the construction process begins.

Every new vinyl fence installation in Hopkins requires obtaining a permit from the city. The permit can be applied for online or by submitting a physical application to the Hopkins City Hall. No matter how you apply for a permit, the application fee is $35. Applications must include a project description that includes heights, materials, and styles. A drawing must also be included that shows the property line. The Hopkins zoning administrator may request an official land survey if they are unsatisfied with the application.

Every new Hopkins vinyl fence installation requires a “utility check.” This is a simple procedure that requires contacting Gopher State One. Someone from Gopher State One will visit the property and identify all underground utility lines for free. We will have this arranged for our customers, so no extra work is needed on your end.

The city of Hopkins specifies height maximums for a new vinyl fence installation. Front yard fences cannot exceed 4 feet. Rear fences can not exceed 6 feet. Height limits may be exceeded if special permission is granted from the city beforehand.

The city of Hopkins does not strictly prohibit installing a new vinyl fence on or near easements. However, the city reserves the right to remove fences that block easements at their discretion. For that reason, we strongly recommend that any new fence allow easy access to all easements.
