Maple Grove regulations state that fencing must be at the front yard setback line or further away from the street. The exception allows for decorative fencing no higher than 3½ feet to be placed in front of the setback line while still on your property. On the sides and back of your property, you can place fencing anywhere up to your property line.

Whether you are friendly with your neighbors or not, notifying them of any work done close to their property line is the polite thing to do. However, there are no rules or regulations that you must tell them of your fence installation plans.

Maple Grove does not require fencing permits, but fencing is regulated by the city’s zoning ordinance. Northland Fence is familiar with the ordinance and codes, and we will assure your new ornamental fencing complies with Maple Grove’s regulations.

As we prepare for installing your new fence, Northland Fence will call your utility provider to make them aware of our intentions. They will have one of their local utility workers come out and mark off any underground lines we need to be aware of before we begin construction.

Maple Grove allows fencing up to six feet in height. However, there are some exceptions. For example, corner lot fencing in the triangular area of the property must be kept at 30 inches or below the street’s centerline grade to allow ease of traffic visibility.

Another example is that fencing in the Shoreland District that is within the 75-foot lakeshore setback must be five feet or lower. In addition, fencing in this area must be designed to blend in with the surroundings. The regulations for differing areas are explicit and complex. Having worked on many Maple Grove properties, Northland Fence is aware of the variety of restrictions here and will make sure your fencing meets the city’s regulations.

Maple Grove mandates that residential fencing be installed within a property owner’s property line. No fencing can “interfere with sidewalk easements, fire hydrants, utility lines, and other public access points.”
