While the Rosemount does have some height requirements, you can position your fencing anywhere you would like within your property line. However, the city is not responsible for private covenants of subdivisions and advises those who live within such subdivisions to check on any fencing requirements in their area.

Notifying your neighbors of your fencing plans is not required, but it is a neighborly thing to do. If your fencing is the only line of defense between your property and theirs, you should tell them the installation date and that there could be a short gap of time when there may be no fencing between the two. Our installers are quiet and friendly, but as with any form of yard work or remodeling, there could be some noise.

Like many cities in Minnesota, Rosemount does require a fencing permit. The city requests a plan drawing be submitted with your application. Northland Fence is happy to get care of this for you. The city charges a $75 application fee and requires an inspection of fencing following installation.

Before we install your new Rosemount wrought iron fence, Northland Fence will call Minnesota Energy Resources. Before we start work, the energy company will send out a representative to map out any underground lines that may lie under the fencing area.

Whether you choose a wrought iron privacy fence or regular wrought iron fence panels, the standard maximum fence height in the City of Rosemount is six feet. However, front yard fencing and any area located on a corner, cannot impair the visibility of drivers as they approach the corner, so may need to be shorter.

Another Rosemount fencing requirement comes with pool fences that must be at least four feet in height, non-climbable, and have self-closing, self-latching gates.

You can install fencing on an easement as long as it doesn’t affect access and use of the easement by city personnel. Like other fences, it must receive a city permit prior to installation. Note that the city is entitled to remove any portion of the fence on an easement if needed for maintenance access. The removal and replacement are at the property owner’s expense.
