Northland Fence is happy to install fencing exactly where you want it. Our only requirement is that we meet Lakeville’s fencing codes and avoid any utility lines.

While it is not imperative you tell your neighbors of your new fencing plans, it would be the neighborly thing to do. You can explain that you want them to be aware of when the installation will begin and how long it may take, so they can be prepared for any possible inconvenience.

Property owners within Lakeview must submit a fence permit application to receive approval for a zoning permit for fences. The exception is for farmland or land used for agricultural purposes, although hobby farms do require a permit. Note, too, that Lakeview has very extensive regulations regarding fencing. Northland Fence is familiar with those regulations and our team will discuss them with you at the time we discuss your project.

Before we begin construction on your fence, Northland Fence will contact the local utility company. They will send an agent out to mark your utility lines so we can avoid any potential problems.

Lakeville allows fencing up to seven feet in height in the front yard and anywhere along the property line including a buffer yard. Fencing higher than seven feet may be allotted through a special building permit.

Lakeville offers no specific regulation that you cannot build ornamental fencing on an easement. However, when you submit a permit, the city may respond with a “no.” Specifically, the city does state that any fencing on an easement cannot “impede the flow of water.” If either the city or a utility company needs access to the easement that is blocked by fencing, they reserve the right to remove and relocate it at the property owner’s expense. If you are set on fencing an easement, we can discuss a proposal with the city through the permit process and suggest consideration of a gate as an option in your permit request.
